Evelyn came for a quick work trip and we headed to our favorite Huckleberry’s for breakfast. Still one of the best places in LA. Then took Charlie to see the burros at the Venice Farmer’s Market and Century City where he made himself at home on the outdoor couch.

We took Charlie to Huntington Beach this morning with our friend Richard, his 8-mo old baby Tyler and their dog Colby. Charlie had so much fun and finally started to learn how to swim in the big waves. He definitely ate saltwater a few times though. Needless to say, he started napping as soon as we got home.

So Evelyn was in town and we wanted to deviate from our traditional Sanuki No Sato standard (well… we went there on Friday) and try a new place! How adventurous. And adventurous it was. After reading numerous good reviews, we headed to the Redondo Beach Pier to Izakaya Bincho. The place was tiny, no signs… you’d easily miss it. There are 4 tables and about 8 seats at the bar… good thing we called for a reservation.

Service was decent although calling the nice waiter soft spoken would be a gross understatement. It was like a skit from Seinfeld. But we got our food ordered and it came in slow procession. Everything in general was very good… a bit on the salty side at times. But man was the Pier sketchy. Just packed with hoodlums. The owner/cook was even accosted by a drunkard but good for the owner for refusing service. I think we’ll stay away until they move locations which we heard was rumored when their lease runs out.

So we had a crazy idea for Labor Day weekend… let’s put on our own food tour of L.A! We decided we were going to try all new places we have never been before. Starting at 8:30am… and going through lunch… we *literally* ate our way across LA. Here we go…

We skipped the places we have been to before… the Abbott’s Pizza, Lamonica’s, Lemonades, Daikokuya’s…

Okay… there are a SLEW of Pupusa restaurants in this area so be sure you find the right one. We actually ended up at the wrong one, ate 2 pupusas before realizing the error but still made it to La Nueva Flor Blanca… which was definitely better. WHOOPS NOT THIS PLACE (even though it was pretty good too):

Beacon finally got all his shots so Nicki and I took her to the beach in Palos Verdes for her first seaside romp. I think she had a great time! You be the judge.
